A Mix CD for God?

I stop by Largehearted Boy almost daily for a good roundup of downloads, torrents (a Notwist show today… woohoo!), and news about digital music and indie bands. From time to time, he departs from music to write about books that he’s read and enjoyed. Yesterday, I was delighted to find that he is beginning an occasional new feature called “Book Notes” in which he plans to invite authors to write about their ideal tracklist for a mix CD based on their latest work.

The Boy’s inaugural edition features a post from Tom Bissell, the author of God Lives in St. Petersburg and Other Stories. (Without the benefit of italics, the post title “Tom Bissell’s Mix CD for God Lives in St. Petersburg and Other Stories” was admittedly a little confusing at first glance.)

What a fascinating way to be introduced to a book! I’ve never read anything by Mr. Bissell, but now I’m quite intrigued. I’m particularly interested in the story “Expensive Trips Nowhere,” since Bissell chooses to set as the soundtrack Radiohead’s “Let Down” and Ben Folds Five’s “Smoke.”

I applaud Largehearted Boy for his creativity and for using his webtraffic clout for good rather than evil. And I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment. Although I suppose I have some stories to read first.

Hi Zalm.

I’ve been reading your comments on the McCarty blog for months now. It wasn’t until today I decided to visit your blog. And I must say… I agree with you wholeheartedly… The best blogs ARE usually about POOP! I’ve written a number of posts on the subject myself. Anyway, nice to meet you. I’ll visit here often.
