Adventures in Metaphor (Or, You Can Tell You’ve Spent Too Much Time in Wine Country When…)

I have an unhealthy fascination with bad metaphors. So it’s with more than a little bit of shameful glee that I divulge the following....

When I was working on my review of this week’s Sufjan Stevens concert, I thought for a while about how to get across the idea that Sufjan’s live show was a complex musical experience that, while enjoyable, was likely to get better with time as the distinct elements began to settle in and complement each other more naturally.

The first thing that popped into my head? A wine term: it’s likely to “cellar well.”

So, um, at least I had the discernment to spare you that beauty.

Well, except for the part where I didn’t.
