An Open Letter to IE5.0 and Mac IE5.2
Dear IE5.0 and Mac IE5.2,
I hate you with a passion formerly reserved only for Netscape 4. I would greatly appreciate it if you and your CSS-mangling ways would stop ruining my afternoon.
Thank you.

I hate IE so much that my new site redesign is built around a three-column table. There are only so many hours one can spend screaming profanity at floating divs.

I feel even worse when someone’s paying me to scream the profanity. I got the IE 5.0 issue squared away, but now Netscape 6.2 is acting up.
Some days I miss tables.
I noticed your redesign yesterday. Very, very nice.
I sent you an email with a screenshot of a slight Firefox glitch and a CSS suggestion, but they really only amount to a slight polish on something already quite elegant.

I am far too familiar with these cursed browsers. To the point where I’ve just stopped caring about IE5 (on Mac and Windows). IE6 gives me enough of a headache. I’ve learned that it’s best to the design for those browser that adhere closest to standards - namely Firefox and Safari - and then go back and add any IE-specific tweaks as necessary.
BTW, have you looked at Position Is Everything? I believe they have some tutorials on how to successfully achieve 3-column layouts that work nicely in any browser. “In Search Of The One True Layout might be what you’re looking for.
