Bumper Stickers I Saw in Berkeley (Part 6)
As much as I’m not a big fan of the current administration, I rarely find myself nodding in agreement with the almost-but-not-quite-clever political screeds passing for bumper stickers in this town. Until today.
Today, I passed a car that had covered over its forlorn “KERRY/EDWARDS 04” bumper sticker with a new, invigorating promise of a better tomorrow:
“STEWART/COLBERT 08”
Let me say this… In the last three years or so, I’ve maybe missed about 20 episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. And last night was one of the best I’ve seen. Jon was absolutely en fuego, leading off with the Novakuation. Then the “Miracle Flight.” And Pandas. And Bill O’Reilly explaining prisoner interrogation to John McCain. Pure Fiery Brilliance. All of which primed me for the moment when Stephen Colbert told the president of the South Carolina NAACP, “See, that’s where you and I differ.” I don’t remember much after that, I was coughing too hard.
Look, these two are the best there is. If they want to stay in television, my life is all the better for it. But if they have their sights set a little higher, well, just tell me what I can do to help.

I am so glad that they show the reruns of the shows the next evening. I missed the first ten minutes of the show last night- but I will get to see it! I did tune in just in time to see Colbert’s piece- and you’re right- that line was brilliant.
I might actually put that bumper sticker on my car- luckily, most of my co-workers would have no idea who it referred to, which would lower my chances of having my car keyed by a right-wing third grade teacher.

If for some reason you miss the rerun or just can’t wait, Comedy Central has the clip up here. (It’s got the first 5:30 of the show… basically, everything through the pandas.)
And I can honestly say that I’ve never worried about car-keying right-wing third grade teachers. I’ll have to be more alert.

I have one of those Stewart/Colbert bumper stickers on my car. I love it and I love
them. I too, used it to cover an old Kerry/Edwards sticker. I wish they would really run!
If anyone is interested, you can get it here as well as t-shirts.
