I’m a Winner!

Thanks to the Pepsi iTunes Music Promotion and to a particularly lucky 20 oz. bottle of Mountain Dew (apparently about 0.7% of a lethal dose), I’ve won a free song at the iTunes Music Store.

Any song suggestions?

I’m really, really close to springing for Bright Eyes’ “Land Locked Blues” (thanks, Kristen), but the rest of the album sounds intriguing enough that I may just have to buy the whole thing.

hmmm… a little digging has revealed that “land locked blues” was released previously (sans emmylou) as “one foot in front of the other” on a saddle creek compilation called saddle creek 50.

the preview makes me think that it’s an inferior version, but i’m still intrigued.  this is a definite possibility…

I flat-out don’t understand why people like Bright Eyes.  It’s the musical analog of a 15 year-old’s ‘dark’ poetry, in which if I had a soul, it’d be black......

y’know, i’ve pretty much ignored the whole conor oberst phenomenon.  but what i’ve heard of this new album is a lot better than anything i’ve heard from him previously.

to be fair, i haven’t spent that much time in the lyrics.  or the album, really.  and a little emmylou certainly helps his cause.  but i think this one is one i’m going to like.

I’ve only heard one Bright Eyes song ("When the President Talks to God"), which is enough to make me want to hear a second. It’s a pretty good song, but I wouldn’t call it great by any means. There are certainly much better anti-Bush songs floating around.

for what it’s worth, i’m up to three lucky caps.  the first two i used on the aforementioned “one foot in front of the other” and a remix of the postal service’s “be still my heart.” the third is still unused.

i also bought that bright eyes album, and i can’t stop listening to it.  i have no idea how it compares to oberst’s other work, but the more i listen to this disc, the more i love it.

your mileage may vary.
