Must. Not. Covet.
If there were 10 commandments written just for me, I think one of them would be written specifically for tonight:
Thou shalt not covet New Yorkers’ chance to see Sufjan open for Iron&Wine&Calexico.
It’s a good thing that such a decalogue does not exist, because at the moment I’m breaking this one like crazy.
Update: Sufjan only performed two songs, but still… solo “Casimir Pulaski Day” and then “Lord God Bird"(!!!!) with Joey Burns from Calexico.

5 Ripples from “Must. Not. Covet.”

How does one covet a “chance?”
and besides, you may not be breaking the letter of the law, but what about the spirit? :p

I share your sentiments. Did you hear the live concert they have on npr? Here’s the url:

The great part is you can actually download the whole thing for free. I&W and Calexico is great enough..but Sufjan too? Thinking about taking a plane to New York…
Another beautiful pairing of artists on tour right now--Nickel Creek and Andrew Bird. I’d love to hear them do some things together.

I’ve been listening to that NPR broadcast for most of the week. Great stuff.
I’m jealous, to be sure, but at least I grabbed the chance to see them (sans Sufjan) back in October. Although the “opening act” for us was pretty much the polar opposite of Sufjan in terms of appropriateness or desirability.
Bird and Nickel Creek are in town on Saturday night, but we’re not going to be able to make it. You’re right… that should be a pretty good show, too.
Also of note: videos from the NYC show! Woohoo!

They’ve had special guests or special openers on most of their stops. Mark Kozelek sat in for a few songs at the show I went to. Others have included members of Califone, Woven Hand, the Shins, M Ward, Norfolk & Western, and so on.
Sufjan was a last-minute surprise addition. He only performed two songs.

Sufjan opened for that lot?
What the flip?
