Of Cough Syrup and Drunkards
I’ve been fighting a cold since the weekend. If you’ll bear with me, I’ll be back as soon as my head stops feeling like it’s about to pop.
While I haven’t felt much like reading or writing over the past few days, I have been listening to a lot of music.
One of the albums that has been keeping me company is Over the Rhine‘s lovely, lovely Drunkard’s Prayer (iTunes). As this is currently sitting at number 2 on my Best of 2005 list, I’ve been meaning to write more about it.
The thing is, Jeffrey Overstreet at Looking Closer has done a much better job of describing, unpacking, and adoring this album than I ever could. So I encourage you to go read his review. He has a real passion for this band and this album that makes his review one of the finest I’ve read in quite some time. And when you’re done with that, he has an interview with Linford Detweiler that gives even more insight into the making of Drunkard’s Prayer.
Just so you know, I’ve also been listening to another extraordinary album that is likely to knock Drunkard’s Prayer down to the third slot on my list. I’ll tell you more about that one once I’m back in the flow of things again.

Nope, no methblogging from me. Sorry to disappoint, my friend.
Although my wife did get carded when she was buying me Nyquil.

Cool, I’ve never even heard of Over the Rhine so I’ll certainly check them out right away. I’m also looking forward to hearing what that other album is because so far, compared to last year, 2005 has been exceedingly underwhelming.

Carded for Nyquil, huh. That’s a new one.
Hope you feel better soon.
