Rumors of My Demise

So Jim wonders when I’m coming back. Recently, I’ve wondered that myself.

Well, not too recently. Last week, I was knocked out of commission by a nasty chest cold, and right now, I’m trying to cram the week I missed of work plus the week I was already behind into the next seven days. Which will be a neat trick, considering I still barely have the energy and lung capacity for a regular workload.

But before that… that’s when I wondered about when or if I’d ever get my game back.

Truth be told, I’ve kinda lost my touch. I can’t really explain it. Maybe there’s some First Law of Blogging Dynamics where bloggers who take a break from writing tend to continue not writing. I don’t know. I’m sure if Newton had a blog, he would’ve phrased it better.

I don’t feel like I have much to say right now. The things that used to get the juices flowing now just make me feel tired. And these days, true inspiration just seems so much harder to come by. Plus, near the end there, back when I wrote regularly, it seemed that every time I wrote something with any sort of passion, it just ended up in people yelling at each other. To be honest, a small part of me isn’t terribly eager to find out if that’s still the case. Last, but not least, I’m in a period right now when I’ve spent so much time working on other people’s websites that the last thing I feel like doing is working on my own.

So to Jim and the handful of you who stop by from time to time: will I be back? Probably.

When will that be? I’m sorry, but I just don’t know.

8 Ripples from “Rumors of My Demise”

Okay… here’s my honest opinion even though you didn’t ask. Your thoughtful, well-written, serious, argument inducing posts were great. You’ve actually succeeded in modifying the way I think about and look at the world. Truly.

But the reason I started reading here and couldn’t stop was that you would post stuff like this, and this.

So there.  I’ll be waiting.

I second what Jim said above.  My vote is for Zalm to be back in full force soon.  That said, I understand that blogging takes a back seat to the rest of life (a principle my wife has to remind me of REPEATEDLY).

And if you don’t want to blog about things that will make people fight, just blog about the music you’re listening to.  I’ve gotten some great tunes from your reviews, and to be honest, good musical taste is hard to come by.  Don’t waste yours!  Blessings, Zalm.  We’ll be here waiting when you come back.

I know you don’t believe the GW bit, Scott.  wink

Anyway, regardless of your lull, I’ll be checking in--and I’ll read what you write whenever, my friend.

Okay, so I read this post with a bit of empathy, as zalm’s “oarless” season has me to blame.  The kid has put some serious work into our website and in general, gives hours upon hours of his life to other people.  That is quite commendable and it is of no surprise that the Salmon feels a little bit less than inspired at the moment.  But those of you who swim in this stream, take heart, I have a feeling he will be back.  We are trying to surgically remove ourselves from being so demanding on his time, but what can you say, he is a talented dude.  Alas, we miss your blogging!  Make Newton proud!

I hope you make a full and speedy recovery!  I’ve missed reading your thoughts, so I hope you’re not teasing with the promise of your return to blogging.

If Newton really had a blog what do you think would be on Newton’s blog.

Would he phrase his discoveries as personal stories or as theories and ideas?

I fully support your break to take care of yourself and other endeavors. The dry times (writing included) are what make the times when it flows even more refreshing.

That being said, we here in the Wasp Jerky/Goingape world miss your posting, and look forward to your return, when you’re ready!
