Saturday Hodgepodge
I worked all last weekend, so this Saturday is the first day off I’ve had in a while. Needless to say, I’m pretty drained. So here’s a hodgepodge of items that I would have posted more about given the requisite time and energy.
The Try of the Tiger
It took me a few days to get around to it, but tonight was upgrade night. We’re up and running on Tiger. So far so good. I haven’t had the time yet to play around too much with Spotlight, but the initial search I did was pretty sleek. Dashboard is more eye candy than anything else right now, although having the calculator and a dictionary a keystroke away might be useful. I’ll have to look to see if there are other widgets that will make it even more useful. Apple was thoughtful enough to provide an RSS feed for new widgets, which should provide the perfect opportunity to check out Safari’s new RSS capabilities. I think Automator will need to wait for another day.
The Dark Side: Irony
OK, so this is only a little ironic in a Morissette kinda way. But there’s still something that warms my heart about an estimated 16,000 Microsoft employees who own iPods (that’s out of 25,000 Redmond employees).
The Dark Side: Schadenfreude
Speaking of heartwarming.... The New York Yankees are a $200,000,000 last-place team. They’re tied with the Devil Rays, who spent $160,000,000 less and just beat the Yankes 3 out of 4. If Steinbrenner’s horse doesn’t do well in the Derby, things are gonna get ugly.
The Darth Side: Memoirs of a Monster
All he wants is to be surrounded by competence so he can stop crushing tracheas with his mind and start finding his son. Brilliant. Beyond brilliant, really. And some of the comments are as creative as the posts.
Album of the Year
I’ve been listening to two albums that might have a shot at unseating I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning as my early favorite for Album of the Year. One of them I can’t tell you about until July. The other is Over the Rhine’s stunning Drunkard’s Prayer. I promise I’ll write more about this beauty later, once I’ve had the chance to get to know it better.
Beer of the Week
Ommegang. Rich, luscious, Belgian-style garnet ale from Cooperstown. It’s not as tasty as their Three Philosophers, but I can’t think of many beers that are.
He Doesn’t Just Find the Truth, He Gives It a Five Minute Head Start and Hunts It Down
It looks like the “Colbert Réport” will go from spoof commercial to spoof 30-minute show in the fall. Don’t know how I feel about this one yet. On the one hand, more Colbert sounds great. On the other, I’m really gonna miss ”This Week in God.”
The Dark Side of Tiger
Hmmm… I like to use Command-F5 with Synergy to rate my tracks as they play in iTunes. But it appears that Command-F5 is now mapped to Universal Access commands, which means that when I give a track 5 stars, my computer starts reading everything to me, including the name of the window I’ve brought to the foreground. I suppose I could remap the Synergy key command, but I’d really prefer to change the other one. I just can’t seem to figure out how. Hmmm…
Well, that’s enough of a round-up for this week. I’m gonna get some rest and see if I can find something to write about in the days to come.
