The Bravernor?  Governheart?

You may have heard that our governor is a wee bit unpopular.

So unpopular, in fact, that even Republicans are turning on their shining star.

So people must be questioning whether it was the height of wisdom to elect an action hero to govern the fifth largest economy in the world, right?

Wrong.

It seems there’s a movement afoot among California Republicans to draft Mel Gibson as a challenger to the Governator in the next primary. Apparently, Gibson “seems to be more consistent with the Republican message.”

I guess Arnold shoulda made a Jesus flick.

Maybe, if he ran against Warren Beatty, as the LAT article suggests, then we’d have debates at the Kodak Theater--with Billy Crystal moderating!  Joan Rivers could interview them about their outfits on Election Day, and instead of the AP “calling” the election for one or the other after the polls show which way it’s going, someone could open a sealed envelope on live TV, with the two of them sitting near each other.

“And the Governor’s Mansion for Best Campaign in an Exceedingly Wacky State goes to...”

Then the guy who just spent a bajillion of his own hard-earned Hollywood dollars for nothing could stand up and cheer and smile, and they’d shake hands as if each really thought the other guy deserved it more anyway.

Then again, it might not be just like bipartisan politics as usual…

Exactly.

Or maybe we take Arnold and Mel and Beatty and Rob Reiner (and Gary Coleman for the Perot factor) and stick them in their own reality series.  Have the audience vote.  Let the winner star in a weekly drama series about being governor of California.

That idea’s free, network execs.  Go ahead and run with it.  Please?

I’m tired of being governed by a brand.

Good find!

It also probably doesn’t hurt that he ostensibly knows what women want.

Then there’s the irony (or not) of this excerpt from Braveheart

Robert: Does anyone know his politics?

Craig: No, but his weight with the commoners can unbalance everything.

That’s pretty funny, Jacke.  Thanks, I needed a good chuckle.  smile

For that matter, Reagan was even governor of California at one point.

Along those lines, the Draft Mel site makes sure to point out:

And...Gibson has a leg up on Schwarzenegger having been born in New York, he could be President someday.

Considering one of the greatest Presidents of all time had been an actor, you know, RONALD REAGAN, maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to judge?

Now, I know some of you will argue about the sheer greatness of Ronald Reagan, but you’d just be wrong to do so.  smile

I have to tell you that I think it’s a hoot, Zalm, that anyone would want to draft Mel considering the fact that he, evidently, has never even considered running for an office.  Lol.  I’m a huge Gibson fan, fan of his movies, that is, and I like Gibson, who seems to be a very down to earth gentle spirit in real life but I won’t be voting in Californeeuh anyway.  I’m a “Show Me State” girl.

Brad Pitt is from my State...hmmmm....maybe he’d consider running against Matt Blunt!  Unfortunately, I don’t think I care for Pitt’s politics, that’s the pitts, ain’t it?  Hey!  That could be incorporated by Blunt in his run against him!  Dang, I’m just sooo good, ain’t I?  smile

Plus, Mel bought himself an island. You can’t go wrong with a governor who owns an island.
